How to Get Rid of Unwanted Fat on Legs

Your legs may not be visible year-round, but they are one of the first things you notice when it's time to start wearing spring and summer wardrobe. Unwanted fat on your legs can make you feel self-conscious in short dresses, skirts, tight pants, bathing suits or anything that shows them off in general. You can get rid of fat and cellulite and build muscle tone by incorporating regular workouts and exercises specifically for your legs. It also helps to be aware of how much you eat and cut out high-fat, processed foods.

      Walk or run several times a week. Cardiovascular activities get your heart rate going and help you burn calories. According to "Thin Thighs In 30 Days" by Wendy Stehling, if you walk at a fast enough pace, you can burn up to 300 calories per hour. Walking is a nice compromise if you are weary or uninspired by the idea of running. However, if you do enjoy jogging, running is one of the most effective exercises for your legs.

      Cut out high-fat and processed foods. Most food that comes in packages is full of chemicals, preservatives and fat; these foods are often high in calories too. If you want to reduce the fat on your legs, you need to reduce the amount of fat that you put into your body. Stock up on fresh fruit and vegetables, lean proteins and complex carbohydrates like whole-wheat bread.

      Count calories. Keep a food journal where you can right down everything you consume with the amount of calories. Depending on your height, weight and the amount of activity you do, most adults should consume between 1,500 to 2,000 calories per day. Once you start writing down what you eat, you may find that you are consuming far more than you thought via small snacks and grazing throughout the day.

      Workout by doing exercises specifically for your legs. Leg lifts and squats can work wonders for your thighs, as can exercise programs such as yoga and Pilates. If you need a little more fun in your leg workout, invest in an exercise ball to tone your legs. Toning will help you build muscle and burn fat.

  • Use cellulite cream. There are several cellulite creams that produce a visible result as long as you continue using the product. The problem is that once you stop using it, your cellulite comes back.
